Kelly Clarkson and her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock have been divorced since 2021, but the pop star recently admitted that it took her a long time to decide on ending their marriage.

According to Page Six, the "American Idol" winner explained in her song "Mine" that she didn't know why she "stayed" in the relationship, but it appears that she has a clear answer during her recent interview with the "We Can Do Hard Things" podcast with Glennon Doyle.

In the episode, released earlier this week, the musician explained that when she was still in the marriage with the record executive, she was like "I can do this... I can handle so much. I can control my actions."

However, she realized that she didn't want her children to go through what she experienced in the past as her parents are also divorced.

"If I'm being completely honest, we don't want to do what we saw done," she explained.

However, she was not happy anymore which led her to be "selfish" in her decisions as she couldn't handle the marriage.

"To be selfish for me was very important because I'm never, I'm rarely selfish. It's been beaten into me since childhood to have a servant's heart. It's very hard to take that and go, 'I need this,'" she further explained.

Despite going through a lot of emotions during her divorce proceedings, the "Kelly Clarkson Show" host noted that she's a "far better mother" after the separation.

The reason why she felt good as a single parent is because she was honest with herself which also reflects on being honest with other people.

Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock have two children together named River Rose and Remington Alexander.

Regarding what her children wanted in the future, the singer said her kids are still hopeful that their parents would make up and be together again.

Kelly Clarkson Tour 2023

The musician has entered a new musical era and is set to release her new album "Chemistry" on June 23, 2023, but the singer explained that she will not be touring despite the popular demand.

In a video posted on her official Instagram account, the pop superstar addressed the speculations that she's going on tour and she's been keeping it a secret.

However, she clarified that it's not happening due to her job and role as a mother to her two children.

"I get really tied down to those things. We are trying to figure out what the possibilities are in certain parts of our calendar," she added.

Even though there is no tour, the musician will be having an exclusive 10-date Las Vegas residency at the Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino starting on July 28.

More information about her scheduled shows is available on her official website.
