Billie Eilish expressed her disappointment and annoyance with Variety after the publication "outed" her during the red carpet of Variety's Hitmaker event over the weekend.

"Thanks Variety for my award and for also outing me on a red carpet at 11 a.m. instead of talking about anything else that matters.

"I like boys and girls leave me alone about it please literally who cares stream 'What Was I Made For,'" she wrote in an Instagram post.

However, after setting the record straight-again-about her sexuality, there was a mass exodus of followers on the "Ocean Eyes" singer's Instagram account.

According to reports, Eilish lost about 100,000 followers from her 110 million followers on the social media platform; she has yet to address the mass unfollowing.

Billie Eilish's Fans Stand By Singer

Meanwhile, some fans are getting worried that it might become a precedent for other celebrities to shy away from coming out as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community as well.

"The fact Billie Eilish lost 100,000 since she came out and apparently is still losing followers is insane. Most likely why [sic] she denied it for a long time and stayed vague about it. Coming out doesn't come with consequences in the creative industries," one wrote in a lengthy thread.

"The representation you see in media does not reflect on the industry actually is for queer people. Whether it's music or film industry. There's a lot of artists that know it might affect their career. At least when you're big enough you'll still be okay."

Eilish might be considered one of the "big" ones in the music industry in this generation; she earned several Grammy Awards since breaking into the scene.

Billie Eilish 'Comes Out' as Queer

According to reports, Eiish "came out" as queer during her cover story interview with Variety's Power of Women issue.

"But I kind of thought, 'Wasn't it obvious?' I didn't realize people didn't know," she said about her sexuality and the low-key way she revealed it.

"I just don't really believe in it. I'm just like, 'Why can't we just exist?' I've been doing this for a long time, and I just didn't talk about it. Whoops."

"But I saw the article, and I was like, 'Oh I guess I came out today.' OK cool. It's exciting to me because I guess people didn't know, but it's cool that they know," she added.
