Olly Alexander has been announced as the United Kingdom's representative for the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest.

Alexander is being primed to rebound from 2023's low placement on the continent-wide competition.

Olly Alexander For Eurovision 2024

According to a Variety report, the United Kingdom selected television actor and singer Olly Alexander to represent the country in the upcoming 2024 Eurovision Song Contest.

Alexander was the first one to break the news on BBC's "Strictly Come Dancing."

"I've loved watching Eurovision ever since I was a little kid and I'm beyond excited to be taking part next year," he revealed. "As a young boy I always looked forward to this incredible event of unbridled joy, the wonderfully chaotic mix of musical styles, theatrical performances, heartfelt emotion and humour."

According to Alexander, he could not believe that he would be part of a "special legacy" of flying the flag of the United Kingdom in the "gayest way possible."

"I've wanted to do this for a long time and it feels like the right moment to start releasing music under my own name. I'm determined to give it everything I've got and put on an excellent and unforgettable performance for you all," he added.

Alexander is a celebrated English actor and singer. Across his three albums, he already has 2 No. 1 UK albums, 10 UK Top 40 songs, and has collaborated with Kylie Minogue, Elton John, and even the Pet Shop Boys. He was also recently awarded the Brit Billion Award for amassing more than 6.5 billion streams worldwide.

Famously, Alexander is also known for his acting chops. He portrayed Russell Davis in "It's A Sin." The show won Best New Drama at the UK National Television Awards and a 2022 BAFTA Television Awards Leading Actor Nomination for Alexander.

Eurovision 2024

Olly Alexander's selection for Eurovision 2024 is a significant one considering the UK's low placement this year.

Mae Muller surprisingly placed twelfth this year, with Sweden's Loreen winning the competition, making her the only artist to win the competition twice.

Eurovision 2024 will be held in Salmo, Sweden in May 2024, following Loreen's win last year. As a tradition, next year's competition will be held in the home country of this year's winner.

Eurovision 2023 was held in the United Kingdom because Sam Ryder, who placed 2nd in 2022, had to assume the hosting duties because 2022's winner, Kalush Orchestra's home country, Ukraine, could not safely host the international competition because of its war against Russia.
