Jay-Z explained why he has yet to headline a Super Bowl Halftime Show.

For years, Jay-Z has appeared in different shows and concerts as one of the most sought-after rappers in the industry. However, he has yet to make his way to the Halftime Show stage, unlike his wife, Beyoncé, who has already performed at the event twice.

Why Jay-Z Does Not Have a Super Bowl Halftime Show Appearance Yet

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight when he attended the premiere of "The Book of Clarence" on Friday, Jay-Z revealed why he has not taken his chance on the gig.

According to the 54-year-old multi-awarded rapper, he reportedly thought it would be too selfish to pick himself "too early."

"Maybe one year. Maybe," he continued.

While he has yet to grab his mic for the show, he showed his support for Usher, who is set to take the stage at Super Bowl 58 on February 11.

"I think that he's going to take his rightful place," he continued. "He's one of the greatest performers we've seen in our time and I think he'll take his rightful place."

On the brighter side, Jay-Z won the 2023 Primetime Emmy Award for directing Rihanna's Super Bowl Halftime Show performance alongside Hamish Hamilton. The duo won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, winning against Joel Gallen (Chris Rock: Selective Outrage), Linda Mendoza (Wanda Skyes: I'm an Entertainer), Glenn Weiss (Oscars) and Paul Miller (Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love).

Jay-Z Busy With His Music Career

Jay-Z does not know when he will take over the Halftime Show stage, but he has been gifting his fans with new music while waiting for that day to come.

Most recently, he created "I Want You Forever" - scheduled to be released on Friday, January 12 - with D'Angelo as the soundtrack of the upcoming film The Book of Clarence where Jay-Z served as a producer.

"There was never a question as to whether I would compose the score and write and perform on the soundtrack, as well as write and direct the movie - it was all one amazing journey where one depended on the other," Jeymes Samuel, the movie director, said in a press release.

Jay-Z and Samuel previously worked together in the latter's directorial debut in 2021, titled The Harder They Fall.

In April, Jay-Z also released his "Empire State of Mind" remix in collaboration with Gil Scott-Heron.
