• 'General Hospital' Star Kimberly McCullough to Direct New Disney Channel Series 'KC Undercover' Starring Zendaya

    When Kimberly McCullough left her role as Robin Scorpio on "General Hospital" earlier this year, the actress said she wanted to branch out and focus on working on the other side of the camera as a director. McCullough took part in ABC's 2012-14 Directing Program, and it was just announced that she has landed her first real directing gig. McCullough will be directing an upcoming episode of "KC Undercover," Disney Channel's new comedy starring Zendaya Coleman.McCullough announced the news via her official Twitter and, ironically enough, she is not the only veteran soap star to decide to leave a plum acting job in favor of working behind the scenes. Allison Sweeney's final scenes as Sami Brady on "Days of Our Lives" aired last week, and after 22 years in character she, too, is excited to direct.

    Audiophiles, rejoice! If you have been looking for an alternative to the average to low-quality sound being streamed by services like Spotify, Beats Music and YouTube, then a new audio service called Tidal is here for you. The service launched in the United States market last week as the first streaming service to offer only high-quality audio.Deezer Elite, which launched in the United States last month, offers high quality as part of its package, but you must be hooked up to Sonos to get the quality. Tidal streams high-fidelity lossless quality, which means it is at 1411 kilobytes per second. To put that in perspective, Spotify streams at 160 kbps for standard desktop and Web player users, iTunes downloads at 256 kbps and Beats Music at 320 kbps, widely considered to be the threshold for good quality for an MP3.Tidal has a library of 25 million songs, comparable to Spotify and Beats Music, and comes with a curation aspect as well. The service creates playlists and gives you recommendations from their editorial team. Not only do you get high-quality music, but you also get HD video for music videos as well.

  • Virgin Galactic Pilot Peter Siebold Defied the Odds by Surviving a Disintegrating Rocket at 50,000 Feet

    When Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo broke apart shortly after breaking the sound barrier last week, it was unimaginable that either pilot would somehow escape the wreckage. Peter Siebold and Michael Alsbury were both still strapped into their seats as the rocket disintegrated around them. Siebold somehow managed to eject from the ship and basically had to run on instincts to get himself back on solid ground.The "Los Angeles Times" breaks down exactly what Siebold was up against and how amazing it is that he survived rather than die, as Alsbury did. First we need to understand that these men could have been as high as an estimated 50,000 feet above Earth when things turned bad. That means that when Siebold began his fall his body was tumbling through temperatures of around 70 degrees below zero and the air is so thin he likely was unable to either inhale or exhale. Siebold also was not wearing a space suit to protect him from the lethal conditions.

    Garth Brooks's comeback arena tour will never, ever end.With the announcement of three Tulsa shows today, Nov. 5, Brooks has made it clear he intends on breaching every corner of the country before shutting the thing down.Texas is a likely next option, with two or three city stops there a definite possibility. That would take Garth into March, and then he still has the entire western United States to contend with before eventually tapping into the East Coast and finishing things up back in the South.Brooks will play the trio of Oklahoma shows — with more to come if those sell out — at the BOK Center from Jan. 15 to 17, with ticket prices sitting at $70.

    Glen Hansard just announced a 10-city U.S. tour for 2015.The 44-year-old "will be performing songs from throughout his career," a press release said.That includes his best-known work from the movie "Once" — "Falling Slowly," which won an Oscar — and other stints with The Frames and The Swell Seasons. Hansard also has a solo album — 2012's "Rhythm & Response" — to work from.According to "Consequence of Sound," Hansard's backing musicians will include bassist Brad Albetta (Rufus & Martha Wainwright), keyboardist Thomas Bartlett (Doveman, The National) and string musician Rob Moose (yMusic, Bon Iver).

    Apparently, Pippa Middleton made such an impression on NBC after sitting for an interview last summer that the network has been courting her for a job. Kate Middleton's younger sister taped an interview with Matt Lauer for "The Today Show" that aired in June and the ratings were spectacular. The numbers confirmed what the network had already known: Americans love royals, even if they are only a married-in extension of the monarchy. Kate's marriage to Prince William has caused enormous interest in Pippa and NBC is hopeful that they will be able to add her as a new correspondent to Today.According to a new report by Page Six, Pippa has been working on a test piece in Utah and, if all goes well, then it will sign her to do special reports on subjects like health and fitness.
