• Nas releasing 'Illmatic XX' to celebrate 20th anniversary of classic album

    2014 marks the 20th anniversary of Nas' debut album Illmatic and the hip-hop world is understandably excited about it. Many a record has been proposed as the best in the genre's history, but Illmatic is one of the few that never falls out of the discussion. The emcee announced this week that he'll mark the occasion on April 15 with the special edition release Illmatic XX, a deluxe version of the original album.

    "I would do a duet with Lady Gaga," Britney Spears said in an online chat back in December, according to US Weekly. "I think that would be a lot of fun. I think she's very different and interesting and intricate, and I like her as an artist." Gaga shot back with the tweet: "Let's do this bitch, it's time."

    It has come to surface that pop star/actress Selena Gomez spent the month of January in rehab. After suddenly cancelling the Australian and Asian legs of her massive Stars Dance Tour for "personal reasons" in December, she went to Arizona for a two-week rehabilitation treatment for emotional issues.

    Billboard has announced its finalists for the 2014 Billboard Latin Music Awards. Romeo Santos is leading the pack with 17 nominations. Prince Royce is close behind with 16 entries and Marc Anthony with 15. The late Jenni Rivera is an 11-time finalist this year. Other notable finalists include Daddy Yankee, Enrique Igelsias, Gerardo Ortiz, Christina Aguilera and more.

    AT&T has recently published a patent that would allow it to charge its customers based on how they use the internet. Patent US 20140010082 A1 proposes a process by which the company could charge its internet customers based on how much bandwidth they use. For example, those who stream music-and especially those who stream video via websites such as Netflix-would be required to pay more for their service.

    Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist, Flea, has issued an explanation for why it looked like his bass was unplugged during the Super Bowl halftime performance — because it was. Photos of the performance began circulating online, pointing out that there was nothing plugged in to his bass when they played "Give It Away" with Bruno Mars. Last night, Flea published an open letter to address the issue, explaining that it was done on purpose for quality assurance. Because it was, after all, the Super Bowl.

    "Greatest songs of all time" lists are nothing new, but we admit we're curious to see what the folks at NME have come up with. After all, the magazine emphasizes rock from the U.K., and the U.K. has produced many of the most influential groups of all time. Interestingly, NME opted to shy away from the obvious big names, at least in its top five (only 500-401 and the top five have been released thus far).
