    Last week a Buzzfeed map caused mass-music confusion for readers who failed to understand what it was showing them. Many assumed they were seeing a chart revealing every state's favorite band, when in fact the map was showing them what performer was listened to in larger amounts in that state versus in other states. The difference between the two options is important. A new map has now emerged that actually reveals every state's "favorite" performer based on the listening habits of 250,000 individuals (which admittedly is not a very large sample).

    The last 12 months have potentially proven Daft Punk to be the current biggest-act-in-music. "Get Lucky" has been a pop culture staple, causing all sorts of videos to go viral. The track itself was one of the best-selling singles of 2013, and the duo's record Random Access Memories was named Album of The Year at the Grammys. And yet there's still been no indication of tour plans for the group. A report from the Rapid City Journal has given hints that plans are in the works however.

    Beale Street Music Festival, which takes place in at Tom Lee Park in Memphis, TN from May 2-4, has announced its 2014 lineup. The bill is topped by Foster the People, Motörhead, Alabama Shakes, Pretty Lights, Avenged Sevenfold, and Kid Rock. Adding to the eclectic assortment of music are Snoop Dogg AKA Snoop Lion, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, The String Cheese Incident, STS9, Jerry Lee Lewis, Grouplove, Bone Thugs-N-Harmoy, 311, Juicy J, and Wolfmother.

    Jabberwocky -presented by ATP, Pitchfork and Primavera Sound- has announced additions to its 2014 lineup. The music, art and film festival will take place at the ExCeL Center in London from August 15-16. Joining the lineup are James Blake, Darkside, Sun Kil Moon, Thee Oh Sees, Perfect Pussy, Forest Swords, Yamantaka // Sonic Titan, the Bug, Amen Dunes, the Van Pelt, patten, Oso Leone, Joana Serrat and Paus.
  • Songcoin: A cryptocurrency dealing exclusively with music

    There's been a lot of talk about cryptocurrency, or currencies based in digital valuation. Unfortunately, most of that talk has been bad, as agencies like the Silk Road use it to peddle in illegal services, and Mt. Gox recently lost $367 million in Bitcoins to digital theft. Still, there are believers. Kasian Franks, the co-founder of Pimovi, wants to launch a cryptocurrency, Songcoin, that will deal exclusively in music-based transactions.
