In a new interview with NME, Foo Fighters bassist Nate Mendel promised that the band has some "f**king cool" plans for their 20th anniversary next year. He didn't specify what any of these cool plans might be, but here are some guesses (and even some suggestions).

1. Play More Tiny Shows Under Fake Names

This past week, the Foo Fighters have been playing tiny club gigs around England under the name "The Hot S**ts." Though it's been well-reported that the Hot S**ts are actually the Foo Fighters, it would be pretty cool if they kept doing a series of these shows (in America this time) under a bunch of different fake names on the down-low. How cool would it be to go out to a club to see some unknown band with a stupid name that turns out to be fronted by Dave Grohl?

2. Play One Enormous Marathon Concert

Though plenty of bands perform entire albums during special anniversaries, the Foo Fighters could outdo them all by performing their entire discography at once. They could set up at some massive outdoor stage somewhere, open with "This is a Call," and proceed to plow through their entire discography, ending with "I Am A River" from Sonic Highways. By my calculations, this concert would take over seven hours, and that's just taking into account the running times of their albums, so it would probably end up being even longer.

3. Perform At Same Venue As The First Foo Fighters Show

Though the first Foo Fighters album was recorded as a Dave Grohl solo project, the Foo Fighters band made its live debut on February 23, 1995 at the Jambalaya Club in Arcata, CA. If I lived in that area, I'd be on the lookout for a surprise Foo Fighters show on that date at that club next February.

4. Record A New Album In One Week, Just Like The Debut

Dave Grohl recorded the Foo Fighters' 1995 debut album in just one week, almost entirely by himself. Though one week is probably the amount of time they spend recording just one song these days, it would be a cool challenge for the band to see if they can record an entire album in such a short time.

5. Record An Album Of Fan-Submitted Songs

As their upcoming crowdsourced concert in Richmond, Virginia proves, the Foo Fighters are very much a band of the people. They seem willing to do a lot for their fans, so maybe for their weeklong album session that I proposed up above, they could record a bunch of songs written by their fans. They could have a contest in which fans submit demos of their own original material, and the 12 best would end up being recorded. Who knows, it could end up being the best Foo Fighters album since The Colour and the Shape. Or it could be their worst. Either way, it's still a cool idea.
