Dex Romweber, popularly known for being one of the two members of Flat Duo Jets, has passed away at the age of 57; what was his cause of death?

His family broke the news on his official Facebook page where they revealed that the musician, whose real name was John Michael Romweber II, has died at his home on February 16, 2024, and he was found by his sister named Monica.

The cause of death was reportedly due to natural causes, but the family clarified that a medical exam is still pending.

The family noted that the singer was preceded in death by his sister, brothers, and their mother. They clarified that they will "have more to say soon," but at this moment, the family is asking for privacy.

Who Was Dex Romweber?

According to Stereogum, the musician was born in Batesville, Indiana. Music has been an important part of his upbringing as his mother was a pianist and she was the one who encouraged him to pursue a career in the field of music.

He started out in a band called Gary and the Resistors with his classmate Hunter Landon. He later became a part of Crash Landon and The Kamikazes along with Tony Mayer and Landon.

His biggest break came in the 80s as he teamed up with Chris "Crow" Smith in the group Flat Duo Jets. They were only 17 years old at the time.

Tone Mayer joined years later and they gained a fanbase thanks to their eccentric performances across the United States.

The band dropped their first EP titled "In Stereo" under a local recording label, but they became more massive upon signing with Dog Gone Records in 1988.

Flat Duo Jets gained more recognition when they became a supporting act for the Cramps on tour in 1990.

Some of their most notable albums were "Wild Wild Love," "Go Go Harlem Baby," "Two Headed Cow," "Red Tango," and many more.

What Happened to Flat Duo Jets

The group parted ways in 1999. Dex Romweber decided to pursue a solo career and he went on tour with music acts like Squirrel Nut Zippers, Neko Case, Cat Power, and more.

His time in a band didn't stop with Flat Duo Jets as he established the Dex Romweber Duo with his sister Sarah.
