Mary J. Blige has shared the music video for her latest single "Whole Damn Year," which you can check out below. The dramatic video tackles issues of domestic abuse and follows various characters who are physically and emotionally suffering at the hands of their loved ones. It is pretty powerful, and it complements the song's message and minimalist production quite well.

"Whole Damn Year" is the third single to be shared from Mary J. Blige's latest album The London Sessions, following "Therapy" and "Right Now" featuring Disclosure. The London Sessions was released Nov. 24 and is Blige's 13th studio album overall, her second of 2014 following her soundtrack to the film Think Like a Man Too from June.

The London Sessions is quite a departure for Blige, which sees the Queen of R&B collaborating with various British artists such as Sam Smith, Disclosure and Emeli Sandé in pursuit of a more modern, house-inspired sound.

"The music is free [in the U.K.] the way it used to be in the States," she told The Guardian about her decision to record in London. "Artists are just free to do what they love. Listening to the radio you can hear the freedom. The music is living and breathing."

Speaking with The Fader, Blige said her British collaborators on The London Sessions "know exactly what to do."

"They know their musical history," she said. "They obviously have a clue who Mary J. Blige is and how to bring Mary J. Blige into this new thing that she's doing without making it look like she's reaching or going too far left."
