Kelly Clarkson isn't the only American Idol alumna and new mom who can channel a heartbeat for a new song - Carrie Underwood is doing it too. Two weeks ahead of the release of her new album Storyteller, the country music juggernaut has released the second sample from her Blown Away follow-up: the bombastic ballad "Heartbeat."

"Heartbeat" finds Underwood singing about getting away from it all and eschewing the city lights for a night out underneath the stars, as she brings her signature throaty vocals against a massive amount of strings, big kick drums and just the slightest touch of twang that makes a country song a country song.

"Tonight I want to drive so far we'll only find static on the radio / And we can't see those city lights / And I love the way you look in firefly glow / Saying everything without making a sound / A cricket choir in the background, underneath a harvest moon / Standing on your shoes in my bare feet / Dancing to the rhythm of your heartbeat," Underwood sings with a determined, boastful power.

"Heartbeat" is the sort of gripping ballad that Underwood does best. Listen to the new track below:

"Heartbeat" is the first of three promotional singles to be released from Underwood's new album Storyteller, which is due for release on Oct. 23. It's just the second track to be unveiled from the new mom's new album; she previously released the record's lead single "Smoke Break."
