If you thought that Carrie Underwood was going to go soft on her new album Storyteller, think again. Just one week ahead of the record's release date, on Friday (Oct. 16), the country superstar released an outlaw-inspired, dark new track "Renegade Runaway."

From the start, "Renegade Runaway" has an urgency to it, with a rushing acoustic guitar being plucked away like nothing else. That ominous feeling then continues when Underwood comes in to the song with her signature massive vocals.

This song is the sort of thing Underwood does best, not only does it contain a good twist in the hook, but it's a sort of warning song. Think "Before He Cheats."

"Love ya, leave ya, play ya like a heartbreak bandit / She's an outlaw, a quick draw / She'll take it all, so don't ya fall / For that renegade runaway, runaway, runaway, runaway," she sings in the chorus, with a sense of determination.

The track also proves that motherhood hasn't made Underwood soft. As Underwood said earlier this month, her music hasn't changed much just because she has a baby boy.

"I kinda think people in some ways expected me to write a whole album of mommy music, and I hope they're not disappointed that that didn't happen," Underwood said.

Carrie Underwood's new album Storyteller will be released on Oct. 23. "Renegade Runaway" is just the third song to be rolled out from the LP, following the release of lead single "Smoke Break" and "Heartbeat."
