In a new interview with host JoJo Wright of KIIS-FM radio Gwen Stefani talks her new emotionally charged song "Used To Love You" and what inspired it. It is largely believed to be about her ex Gavin Rossdale and during the questionnaire the singer subtley confirms that the assumptions may be dead on. The two filed for divorce over the summer after 13 years and three children together. Stefani also recently confirmed that she is dating her co-host on The Voice, country singer Blake Shelton.

"The song was not written that long ago," Stefani said to Wright. "Like, I want to say maybe a month and a half ago, which is crazy. I had been writing, writing because my life blew up. Everybody knows that my life blew up last February." Stefani continued, "I was going along thinking that was going to be the rest of my life and it's not." The song's lyrics do seem very pointedly directed towards her ex Rossdale, and Stefani debuted it at an exclusive event for select MasterCard holders at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

The singer was slightly dodgy about the details but did expose the intimate process behind the song: "There was one night, the epicenter of the whole thing—that's the most I can say about that—and the next day I wrote the chorus to, 'Used to Love You,' but I didn't know it was 'Used to Love You.' I just had written all this stuff and it happened to be in there buried in a bunch of lyrics I had written."

Stefani further spoke on the record label's reaction and just how personally she took their initial partial rejection of the song. "It kind of felt like a punch in the stomach, like all the wind got knocked out of me. They basically said they didn't think anyone would relate to it and it was too personal."

But it seems that despite the divorce, love is still in the air for Stefani and she recently confirmed that she was dating Shelton after the two were spotted together on Halloween. Some blurry photos of the two canoodling supposedly confirmed the relationship and it was reported that the two spent the majority of the weekend together.

Although the two denied dating rumors for a long period of time after they were spotted together on Halloween it became impossible to discount. Stefani and Shelton officially came out as a couple at the 2015 CMA Awards last Wednesday (Nov. 4) and just hours later a representative for the No Doubt front woman confirmed the relationship. She also recently gushed about her new boyfriend in an interview with 103.7 KVIL.
