Safaree Samuels is in the press more often than not in combination with his ultra-famous ex, Nicki Minaj, and her new boyfriend, Meek Mill, instead of for his music. But with his new track, "Can't Lie," which premiered on Billboard today, he may begin making waves for something other than his 12-year relationship with Minaj and how it went down in flames in 2014. The love song was produced by Vetty, features Olaf on vocals, and is on his most recent mixtape It Is What It Is, Vol. 2. In a new interview, he talks his new music, Minaj, and the engagement rumors between her and Meek Mill.

When asked about the multitude of press involving himself and the ex, Samuels told Billboard, "You know, right now, there is no status of it. I just wish 'em all the best. You know I don't have an ill feeling going towards anyone. From my side, it's nothing but love. I'm the type of guy, whether you like it or not, I'm still going to say 'hi' to you. It's on you to where you wanna take it. I don't have an ill will bone in my body. It's nothing but God bless and protect the love."

Samuels further said on her supposed engagement, "Hey, good luck. Once you're happy, that's all that matters, you know? Nobody wants to be sad and miserable, so if you're happy and you're really happy, you know, God bless."

Samuels claimed that the song was not, in fact, written about his famous ex and that he wrote it from a friend's point of view, saying, "I just really put myself in the situation of like a guy or female who could have been in those types of situations and I'm sure everyone can relate."

But despite the positive viewpoint that Samuels took in the interview, he has, in the past, trashed Minaj and claimed that he received no credit for songs that he had helped her to write. He claims to have been a major player on most, if not all, of her songs, including those on Pink Friday, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, and The Pinkprint. He is additionally seeking money returned in the lawsuit, which also cites her singles "Only" and "Feeling Myself."

Samuels is currently in the process of assembling evidence that he was a major player and Minaj's songs, which include voice memos and live footage of the two in the studio. He is also asking for producer credits on Pink Fridayand Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.
