Azealia Banks may have been banned from Twitter, but she still can’t seem to keep her mouth shut and is now accusing both Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga of plagiarism on Facebook.
She’s calling herself “the most widely criticized and widely ignored artist of all time,” but her impassioned rants on various topics often border on controversial and distract from her talents as a rapper.
The most recent scandal Banks was involved with includes racial and homophobic slurs directed at Zayn Malik according to NME. It is also worth noting that she recently posted about her decision to undergo skin bleaching on Facebook. The Malik controversy led to the “212” rapper being dropped from a U.K. festival although she apologized.
In her newest rants, Banks has alleged that Swift ripped her off by co-opting a name that was invented for the “Bad Blood” video and Gaga was influenced by Banks on the title of her Artpop album.
“FUN FACT: 'SLAY-Z' is a nickname given to Azealia Banks by one of her fans in 2014, a play on the Z in Banks’ name, and her propensity to release consistently awesome music, the nickname was lifted from her twitter account and featured as one of the characters in Taylor Swift’s ‘Bad Blood’ video,” Banks wrote on Facebook, further saying, “Azealia Banks reclaimed the name upon the arrival of her self-released 2016 mixtape entitled ‘SLAY-Z.’”
She continued with, “FUN FACT: Azealia Banks created her own genre of music called ‘WItch-Hop.’ Coined by the success of 2012’s Fantasia Mixtape, Azealia considers her music to be inspired by the invisible world. 3 days after ‘Witch-Hop’ was declared by Azealia Banks to be a legitimate genre, Lady Gaga (also a fan of Azealia Banks) suspiciously titled her then upcoming studio album, ‘Artpop.’”
The post about Gaga ripping off Banks for the Artpop title has since been removed.
Banks went on to say that she feels because she is a woman she is not given as much leeway as her male peers to express herself.
