Meghan Markle Criticized By The Press

Markle and Prince Harry started dating each other in 2016. Their relationship was confirmed by the Kensington Palace after Markle was condemned by the press. The Prince asked the media to treat his girlfriend with respect and said that he was disappointed that he could not protect her from them.

"He knows that it is unusual to issue a statement like this, but hopes that fair-minded people will understand why he has felt it necessary to speak publicly," read the statement.

Over a year later, Markle and Prince Harry announced that they were officially engaged via a statement from the Kensington Palace. The couple also sat down for an interview a day later and said that the proposal took place at Prince Harry's home in Nottingham while Markle prepared a roast chicken for dinner.

Following their engagement, Markle and Prince Harry celebrated Christmas together with the royal family at Queen Elizabeth's hometown, Sandringham.
