John Mayer's new song, "New Light," is so good that he felt the need to release a music video as soon as possible.

On Thursday, May 24, he dropped a low-budgeted, low-effort music video that makes use of green screen magic to bring the singer-songwriter in an adventure across different landscapes from all over the world.

John Mayer Releases 'New Light'

Mayer first shared a short teaser of the unconventional music video on Twitter.

"Every once in a while a song comes along so powerful it requires a music video fast," the singer said on the sneak peek. "Like really fast. Where literally any video is better than nothing."

When the full music video finally dropped, it was glorious.

The 40-year-old appeared on the music video wearing a worn-out purple hoodie, blue striped pajamas, and blue sneakers as he makes his way across classic backgrounds like a generic barn, in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, an African safari, beside a blonde woman while driving in California, and a lot more.

There was no wardrobe change, no other actors involved, or any narrative and direction; just Mayer awkwardly singing and dancing along to his new track while getting lost in the universe of stock videos.

On Instagram, the Grammy-winning musician explained the reason behind the fun new music video.

"I needed to make a video for 'New Light' but nobody could agree on a budget," he told his 3 million followers, "so I went to a place downtown and made this with a company that usually does birthday and Bar Mitzvah videos."

The music video, according to Paste Magazine, was directed by Fatal Farms. Meanwhile, the catchy new track was produced by No I.D. who previously collaborated with Common, Jay-Z, and Kanye West.

While Mayer's "New Light" feels refreshing in the sea of movie-quality music videos, he is not the first artist to make use of a green screen in the recent years. A few weeks ago, Dua Lipa and Calvin Harris also emote in front of a green screen in their '80s-themed music video for "One Kiss."

West's 2013 hit, "Bound 2," also saw the rapper and his wife, Kim Kardashian, riding a motorcycle in front of a sunset scene.

Fans React To John Mayer's New Music Video

The music video for "New Light," however, was a total hit to fans. Twitter users are already taking screenshots and making memes out of the charming video.

Apparently, even Calum Hood of 5 Seconds of Summer is a fan.
