Suge Knight is presently serving a 28-year prison term after being accused with Terry Carter's murder in January 2015.

Despite the fact that the case was never tried, the former Death Row Records mastermind took a plea deal and was convicted of voluntary manslaughter three years later. However, the victim's family has filed a wrongful death claim against Knight.

The Rolling Stone said that Knight appeared in court on Wednesday to defend himself in the case and detail the circumstances that led up to what happened to Carter, including his unsuccessful meeting with Dr. Dre to discuss the film "Straight Outta Compton."

According to the magazine, Knight said he wasn't seeking to confront Dre despite testifying that authorities informed him Dre hired the man who shot him seven times at Chris Brown's pre-VMA party in 2014.

When the accusation was brought in a civil court cross-complaint in 2016, the producer denied it.

During that time, Dr. Dre's lawyer stated that because his client had not spoken with Suge Knight since leaving Death Row Records in 1996, "he hopes Suge's counsel has loads of malicious prosecution insurance."

However, the music executive and co-founder of the successful record label testified yesterday that he had no affiliation with the lawyer who filed the cross-complaint.

Knight stated that officials informed him of an alleged murder-for-hire contract from the Beats Electronics magnate, but he dismissed the accusations.

Knight said that after Carter's death, he ended up to the "Straight Outta Compton" office after someone instructed him to "come through" because he and Dr. Dre were going to handle a "problem."

Suge Knight told Rolling Stone, "So I walked up there. I was going to approach him and say, 'Hey dude, I'm not going to respond to what the authorities say about you being involved in my shooting.' I just want you to be aware that they are saying this and putting it out there."

He also testified that he was in the office to alert Dr. Dre about what police were telling him, rather than raising concerns about being represented as a bodyguard in "Straight Outta Compton" or demanding payment for using his name and picture.

Dr. Dre and Ice Cube were apparently too busy for the meeting, but as he departed, he was told that the latter wanted him to return.

Things allegedly escalated when he inquired about Dr. Dre and a gang member, then grew enraged over a joke he made and became physical.

Suge Knight then mentioned someone trying to place something on his windshield at the time, prompting his lawyer to inquire whether he had been issued with a restraining order from Dr. Dre, to which he replied, "No, never."

Carter's wife and daughter are suing for $10 million in damages, and the matter is expected to go to trial next week.
