According to Pitchfork, the rapper's new charge deals with discharging a firearm "in a grossly negligent manner which could result in injury or death to a person."

Court documents obtained by Complex confirm the new charges. The documents, dated Dec. 5, reads: "A felony count of discharging a firearm with gross negligence was added to the information in the commission and attempted commission of the above offense, [Tory Lanez] personally inflicted great bodily injury upon" the female rapper.

This comes after the news of Lanez being freed from house arrest to prepare for the trial.

Lanez was kept under house arrest after he had allegedly tried to intimidate and bribe witnesses involved in the case.

It seems like the case is finally going somewhere, with the new charge as well as Lanez's preparation for the trial.

It has been two years since Megan Thee Stallion accused Lanez of shooting her foot, and the trial is finally underway.

Rolling Stone notes that with the new charge, Lanez can face up to six years in jail and it also qualifies as a deportable crime if he is convicted.

Lanez was originally charged with one felony count of the following: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, personal use of a firearm, and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.

Overall, the rapper is facing a maximum sentence of 22 years and eight months, and he pled not guilty to the first two charges back in November 2020.

The Shooting

According to Megan Thee Stallion, Lanez shot at her foot and ordered her to dance for him.

She went public with her accusations, "B***h, you shot me and my story not changing and b***h, you going to jail!"

"You shot me, and you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs lying and s**t. Stop lying.

"Why lie? I don't understand. I tried to keep the situation off the internet, but you're dragging it."

Her claims were backed up by an LAPD detective, who said, "As she exited the vehicle, she heard Mr. Peterson yelling obscenities at her, and he stated, 'Dance, bitch!' And he then began firing a weapon at her.

"Megan immediately felt pain to her feet, observed blood, fell to the ground, and then crawled to an adjacent driveway of a residence...She described her injuries as bleeding profusely."
