It's been six years since Katy Perry first joined "American Idol" as a judge along with Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie but it seems like the pop star is ready to leave the reality singing competition show after she felt being "thrown under the bus." What happened?

According to sources who spoke with Daily Mail UK, the "Firework" hitmaker feels misrepresented by the show as she allegedly believed that producers intended to edit her negative parts in order to portray her as a "nasty judge."

This is not the first time the 38-year-old musician became controversial for her comments that led fans calling her out on social media, but this specific season has reached her breaking point.

Katy Perry's Good Intentions Being 'Misinterpreted'

Perry got tired of the controversy especially after the backlash she received for "mom-shaming" a contestant. She also got booed on the judging panel for her comments on the contestants. (via Page Six)

"Katy became aware of the harsh criticism. Getting booed really upset her. She was trying to stay in her lane, do her job and go home," the insider revealed.

The source added that the pop star was expecting to "foster young talent," however, her good intentions was taken for granted and was misinterpreted, which is something that doesn't sit right with her.

"Katy became aware of the harsh criticism. Getting booed really upset her. She was trying to stay in her lane, do her job and go home," the source added.

As of this writing, Katy Perry has yet to address the issue. She has also yet to confirm whether she'll come back as a judge next season or not.

Katy Perry Unbothered?

Amid her controversies this season, an insider told Page Six earlier this month that the "Teenage Dream" singer "isn't fazed" by the negative reaction from the public.

The main reason why she appears to be unbothered was because she was just doing her job as a judge.

In addition, her sense of humor could also be easily misinterpreted by viewers and the source noted that she never has any "ill intent" to the contestants of the show.

Katy Perry has been a judge on "American Idol" since 2018. She reportedly makes over $25 million every season while her co-judges Luke Brian makes $12 million and Lionel Richie with $10 million. (via Bustle)
