It's official! Sean 'Diddy' Combs will be receiving his Global Icon Award for his unparalleled impact on the music industry globally!

Shakira will also be receiving her well-deserved recognition with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards on Sep. 12, 2023.

Diddy VMAs Global Icon Award

For those who do not know, the Global Icon Award was adopted from the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2021, after it ditched its annual Tricon Award. Lady Gaga was the first and last recipient of the award.

According to Rolling Stone, Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers were the only acts who received the award. As explained, the Global Icon Award was given to "celebrate an artist or band whose unparalleled career and continued influence have achieved a unique level of global success in music and beyond."

What seemed to have prompted MTV to recognize Diddy with the recognition was his "unprecedented" move to assign back music publishing rights to the artists that inked a deal with his Bad Boy Record label, 30 years ago. Per the rap mogul, it is part of a broader goal of promoting economic empowerment for Black artists and culture.

According to Variety, Diddy will be returning the rights back to Notorious B.I.G, Faith Evans, Ma$e, the Lox, 112, and many other unspecified artists on the mix. Reportedly, the deal is worth "hundreds of millions of dollars."

Diddy Net Worth 2023

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Diddy's net worth is already $1 billion. Per Forbes, Diddy officially replaces Kanye West on the Billionaire's list, making him and Jay-Z the only rapper on the list.

Diddy's net worth of $1 billion is attributed to his extensive work in the industry as a rapper, record producer, music executive, and even a talent director for Uptown Records. He is also a recipient of three Grammy Awards, including Best Rap Album for "No Way Out," and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for "I'll Be Missing You" and "Shake Ya Tailfeather."

Aside from being a multiplatinum artist, Diddy also acts, like many hip-hop artists turned rappers. His films and television shows include "Monster's Ball," "Made," "Draft Day," "A Raisin in The Sun," "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," "CSI: Miami," "Carlito's Way: Rise to Power," "Get Him to the Greek," and "Black-ish," among others.
