While on a romantic getaway with his partner, Liam Payne was taken by ambulance to the hospital after experiencing excruciating kidney discomfort.

The Sun reported that the 30-year-old One Direction singer got sick while visiting Lake Como with girlfriend Kate Cassidy in Italy. Last month, Liam made the decision to cancel a South American tour owing to a "serious kidney infection" that had previously kept him in the hospital.

Insiders claim that the celebrity was celebrating his one-year wedding anniversary with Kate when he became ill at his vacation home and needed to be taken to the hospital by ambulance.

He is reportedly in the hospital right now and will be there for a few days. Liam is in a poor way, but he's in the best place he can be, and finally doctors will be able to figure out what's going on, according to a source.

He is obviously devastated that his and Kate's trip to Lake Como has been cancelled, but at least she was there to support him when he got sick. He has been advised by the doctors not to anticipate being cleared to return home for at least another six days.

They want to run every test available to completely understand the problem, but they now believe that there has been a longer-standing, worsening underlying problem.

MailOnline has gotten in touch with Liam's representatives for comment. After receiving a'rest and recover' directive from his physicians, Liam broke the terrible news last month that he was postponing his next tour.

Liam posted this, "It's with a heavy heart I have to tell you that we have no other choice but to postpone my upcoming tour of South America."

He added, "over the past week I've been in hospital with a serious kidney infection, it's something I wouldn't wish on anyone, and doctors orders are that I now need to rest and recover."

He also expressed how disappointed by saying, "I was beyond excited to come play for you guys. To all of you who have bought tickets: I'm so sorry."

The former member of One Direction spoke out about his mental health in July, revealing that after hitting "rock bottom" last year, he spent some time at a wellness center in the US where doctors diagnosed him with "a couple of conditions."

The musician posted a sincere Instagram Story in which he admitted to having a difficult day and stated his loved ones could see he was still having trouble. Liam talked about his'manic' periods and how hard it was for him to stay sober when he was "super low."
