Dolly Parton revealed the real reason why she and Carl Dean decided not to have children.

Among the icons in the industry, Parton has one of the strongest marriages that everyone feels envious of. The pair have been together for 55 years and married for 57 years, but they never had a child after a joint decision they made.

In her interview with Mojo Magazine (via The Mirror), Parton explained why she feels glad she never had children despite being married since 1966.

The 77-year-old "Islands in the Stream" hitmaker also spoke about the current political climate and its effects on kids, saying, "we're not making any progress."

"Nobody's willing to listen to anybody else," she said. "Everybody already knows everything. You're going to teach your children the same thing, whether it's right or wrong."

Parton explained that her young relatives worry her to death because they know everything.

To complete her and Dean's family, the crooner revealed that they treat themselves as each other's child instead.

Her recent comment resonated with what she told Oprah Winfrey in 2020, saying that she believes it was God's will not to have a child. Instead, she poured her love into her book-gifting initiative, Imagination Library.

Dolly Parton, Carl Dean's Secret to Lasting Marriage

Although people say children can make a marriage last, the "I Will Always Love You" singer revealed her and Dean's secret to their lasting marriage.

She told ET Canada that their secret sauce is having different interests while enjoying a sense of humor.

"You know, there's a lot to be said about that. So, we're not in each other's face all the time," she said. "He's not in the business, so we have different interests, but yet we have the things we love to do together."

As for the sense of humor they have, she revealed that both of them have a great sense of humor that also helps them whenever they have problems.

Parton and Dean celebrated their 50 years of marriage in 2016 through a renewal of vows in a private ceremony in Nashville, Tenn. They notably wed in a small ceremony in 1966 after two years of dating.
