One day in 2019, Nicki Minaj shocked the world when she announced that she would be retiring. However, not an hour passed after the Barbz, her fans, stormed Twitter with a pang of betrayal, and then the tweet disappeared out of thin air, seemingly retracting her retirement from the industry.

After a while, Minaj announced her pregnancy with her first child, now called Papa Bear, and she was transformed.

Nicki Minaj Says Guilt Was The Reason She Returned From Music

In a Vogue interview, Nicki Minaj opened up about motherhood. She recalls a story about meeting a woman who thought of herself as the "world's best homemaker."

However, at some point, this woman that the rapper met started to derive her self-esteem solely from her children's accomplishments, and eventually felt guilty about working because she missed her children's most precious moments.

"I was like, OMFG," Minaj remembered. "She felt guilt when she was doing the perfect homemaker thing, and guilt as a working mom when she missed a moment in their lives. Maybe God let that lady say that to me because it made me think, Well, if I'm going to have mom guilt regardless, I might as well continue doing the only thing I know how to freaking do, which is make music."

In 2020, Minaj appeared from here in there - a collaboration with Meghan Trainor, a guest appearance on RuPaul's Drag Race, hopping in on Doja Cat's "Say So," which eventually snagged a Guinness Book of World Records.
