  • Kendrick Lamar & Eminem Will Be on Dr. Dre's 'Straight Outta Compton' Soundtrack

    Along with obvious tracks from N.W.A., Kendrick Lamar and Eminem will also feature on the soundtrack to Straight Outta Compton, the biopic about one of hip-hop's most influential supergroups. Stopping by San Diego Comic-Con, the film's director, F. Gary Gray, told MTV that the Dr. Dre-produced soundtrack is "insane."

    Kendrick Lamar used To Pimp a Butterfly as a vessel to return to his hometown of Compton to fight gang violence rather than escape it. His latest collaboration with Reebok seeks to promote that end, as the "King Kunta" rapper has previewed a shoe that caters to both bloods and crips.

    Nielsen has released its midyear music sales report and things are looking about how you'd expect: Streaming is way up, overall album sales are down, and the vinyl trend continues. Taylor Swift and Drake are among the few performers that can feel good about moving entire albums at this point.

    Kendrick Lamar released his complex and socially conscious album To Pimp A Butterfly back in March with influences of jazz, soul and funk sprinkled in with his artfully crafted, politically charged raps about the ills that he grew up and sees today in society. One of the tracks that highlights the struggle of where he grew up in the inner city of Los Angeles is "Alright" and today, K.Dot has unveiled the music video for the song, which targets police violence and brutality that has been a hot topic in the United States.

    Rising R&B star Jidenna's new single "Classic Man" has gotten a big name rapper for its new remix. Today (June 22), the single from the upcoming Wondaland Presents: The Eephus album got some assistance from Kendrick Lamar, turning the track into a future smash hit.
