• The Rolling Stones and University Songs: Will Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh and NC State Get Tributes?

    The Rolling Stones made every Ohio State Buckeye fan go nuts (pun intended) when the band performed "Hang On Sloopy" at Ohio Stadium in Columbus last night. The band, probably the biggest touring act in the world aside from Paul McCartney, has a host of huge venues hosting it throughout the "Zip Codes" tour. Several of these, like Ohio Stadium, also play host to NCAA football programs throughout the year, so Music Times decided to check out what the official songs of those programs are, just in case the Stones might think about busting them out during forthcoming live performances.

He spoke with Music Times about the inspiration behind the title, how he met Crowe under the most Canadian of circumstances and how, if he'd had his way, he'd be shredding in a hair metal band and not singing Newfoundland sea shanties (with no offense meant to sea shanties).

  • Shaky Knees '15 Lineup: The Strokes, The Avett Brothers, Wilco to Headline ATL Festival

    Atlanta's Shaky Knees Music Festival announced its 2015 lineup, and it certainly holds its own against some of the bigger events. The Strokes, Wilco and The Avett Brothers are set to headline along with Ryan Adams, The Pixies and Social Distortion. Tickets for the three-day festival, which will run May 8 to 10, go on sale Friday, Jan. 16, "Consequence of Sound" reports. The third annual fest is offering an array of talent from alternative to metal, with most bands falling in the indie rock category. Here are the other artists you can look forward to seeing if you go: Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Tame Impala, Brand New, Old Crow Medicine Show, Mastodon, Interpol, TV on the Radio, James Blake, Neutral Milk Hotel, Flogging Molly, Manchester Orchestra, Dr. Dog, Milky Chance, Death from Above 1979, Spiritualized, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Kaiser Chiefs, ZZ Ward, Panda Bear, Clutch, American Football, The Black Lips, The Devil Makes Three, The Mountain Goats, Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls, The Kooks, Wavves, Built to Spill, Mac DeMarco, Diamond Rugs, Minus the Bear and Old 97s.     It's been over 11 years since Elliott Smith tragically passed away, and now the "Miss Misery" singer is getting his due with a tribute album. Yesterday (Jan. 7), it was announced that The Avett Brothers' Scott Avett and singer-songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield will be releasing a tribute album for the late Smith, fittingly titled Seth Avett & Jessica Lea Mayfield Sing Eliott Smith.
