• The Replacements Perform "Alex Chilton" On 'Fallon,' 28 Years After Being Banned From 'SNL' [WATCH]

On last night's (Sept. 9) episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, legendary alternative rock band the Replacements made their first television appearance in over 25 years, performing their classic song "Alex Chilton" from their 1987 album Pleased To Meet Me. It's also the band's first time back to 30 Rockefeller Plaza after being banned from Saturday Night Live after a characteristically drunk and sloppy performance on that show back in 1986. You can check out their Tonight Show performance right here, which sounds pretty sober, but still great:
  • 7 Incredible Minimalist Music Videos

Pop music videos have a tendency to be flashy and eye-catching, with cuts that are so quick that there's not really any room for subtlety or nuance. However, these seven artists ignored these conventions and instead made videos that are startlingly minimalist and uncomplicated.
  • 12 Legends Covering Songs By Other Legends [LISTEN]

It's pretty common for an up-and-coming artist to cover a song by a legendary artist to get themselves going, but there have been many times where these covers of classic songs have come from other legendary artists. Here are 12 legendary artists who have covered other legendary artists.
  • 8 Great Opening Tracks That Are Unlike The Rest Of The Album

A good opening track should offer a captivating example of the rest of the album to come, but sometimes a song is chosen to open the album that doesn't sound anything like the other songs. Here are eight great opening tracks that are unlike the rest of the album.

  • 6 Great Songs With Solos On Unusual Instruments

In rock and pop songs, most solos are played on guitar or keyboard, though occasionally the bassist and drummer gets chances to shine. However, these six artists chose pretty unconventional instruments (for rock and pop music, anyway) to play them on. Here are six great songs with solos on unusual instruments.
  • 7 Pairs of Albums with the Same Title: Which Is Better?

A while back, I wrote an article comparing songs that happen to have the same title. Though two songs sharing the same title is fairly common (I could rewrite that list many times over with new songs), two albums sharing a title doesn't happen nearly as much. Let's unfairly compare some albums whose only similarities are their titles.

  • 7 Album Covers That Don't Match the Music

A good album cover should compliment the music inside, and a lot of covers do this very well. • 8 Bands That Should Be On Classic Rock Radio

Classic rock radio is, by its own design, a very stagnant radio format. While a lot of excellent songs are played, there’s never going to be new “classic rock” band to come along and shake things up. What these radio stations could do, though, is dig a little deeper and give some of these artists a spin.
  • Eight Bands That Moved Away from Punk

The world would be a much poorer place if punk rock didn't exist. It's a great place for musicians to start out, but there's only so much someone can do within the genre before they or their audience gets bored with it, which is why so many bands that started in punk eventually moved on, such as...
