For those who do not know, Dorothy Gale is a character on L. Frank Baum's "Oz" novels. She was introduced at the "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" novel as its main protagonist.

Meanwhile, the 2024 "Wicked" film is based on the movie musical of the same name in 2004, which was taken from the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, from the same universe. It explores the life of the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch of the North.

Dorothy In 'Wicked' Trailer

The 2024 "Wicked" film stars Ariana Grande as Glinda the Good Witch of the North and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West.

In the recently released trailer, many fans were surprised that Dorothy Gale's character was already included in the trailer, despite the material taking place before she arrived in Oz.

Dorothy, who was played by a still-unknown actress, arrives along with the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, and the Scarecrow as they confront the Wizard's lair.

Many were surprised by this change, considering that "Wicked: Part 1" is speculated to only be featuring the events of the musical in its First Act which did not include Dorothy Gale's appearance yet.

Meanwhile, many debate on what Dorothy's appearance meant.

"I think the scene with Dorothy & friends visiting the Wizard in the teaser could be part of a post-credit scene where the Wizard tells them to kill the Wicked Witch of the West. This would be really cool way to remind the audience this was just a part 1, a fan posted on Reddit.

"I suspect we'll get a montage of scenes from Part 2 (think how they showed scenes from Part 3 at the end of Back to the Future 2). But a full set-up scene, in this day and age of Marvel mid-credits scenes, wouldn't surprise me," another echoed.

However, a fan noted that the inclusion of Dorothy in the "Wicked" trailer doesn't actually mean that she's in the first part. They said that since it was labeled as "First Look" this could mean that they put several clips from both movies in the teaser, but it could still be on the second film.

"Wicked" has already wrapped filming and this could be the most plausible theory as to why Dorothy is already included.
