In 2012, Taylor Swift released a song titled "Ronan," which was inspired by a three-year-old boy named Ronan Thompson. Unfortunately, the boy passed away due to a medical condition. More recently, the mother of the late child revealed that even after all these years, she's still in contact with the pop star.

According to People Magazine, Maya Thompson, the mom who was also credited as a songwriter of the track, recently held a Q&A on TikTok, where she answered some of her followers' personal questions.

One of her followers asked whether she was still in contact with Taylor Swift, and she happily confirmed that they were still talking.

However, she was hesitant to share more information, explaining, "I'll share some things, not everything, because I'm protective of her."

The mom then added that the pop star provided all of her concert tickets, and she praised her for being "so kind and so generous."

"Twelve years later, she's still here. So I love her dearly," she added.

Taylor Swift 'Ronan' Meaning

According to the outlet, the track used to be a standalone single that Taylor Swift performed in 2012 for the Stand Up to Cancer telethon. The track was in honor of Ronan, who passed away from neuroblastoma the year prior.

Billboard reported that some of the song's lyrics contained direct quotes from Maya Thompson's blog, which she wrote when she was grieving for her son.

In 2021, the mom revealed that the singer reached out to her and asked if she could include "Ronan" on the re-recorded version of her album Red, to which she happily agreed.

"Tears sprang to my eyes... It took me an hour to absorb the words in front of me. I cried while sharing the news," she said of her reaction upon receiving the news.

Maya Thompson shared a part of the email that showed the pop singer's letter, saying she had just completed Red, and it exceeded her expectations, so she thought it would be appropriate to add "Ronan" to the tracklist.

"I wrote 'Ronan' while I was making Red and discovered your story as you so honestly and devastatingly told it," the Grammy Award-winning singer added.

Maya Thompson later shared that she agreed to include "Ronan" in her album, saying she did her best to articulate how much the opportunity meant for her through tears.

However, she clarified that no words describe her feelings as she was so happy.

She later shared a blog post addressed to her son, saying the pop star has ensured his safety in a "new, permanent" home.
