Critics once again criticize Olivia Rodrigo for allegedly imitating another artist's style.

Social media users note the similarity between the singer's latest song "Obsessed" and Mariah Carey's song of the same title.

The music buzz started when the 21-year-old made a big reveal on a few days ago, announcing that five new songs, including "Obsessed," would hit the airwaves Friday.

Joining this anticipated release are the songs "Girl I've Always Been," "Scared of My Guitar," "Stranger," and "So American." Olivia Rodrigo's rendition of "Obsessed" will be featured on the bonus deluxe release of her famous album Guts.

The official music video, premiered Friday, adds a visual dimension to the song.

In 2009, Mariah introduced her take on the track "Obsessed."

Olivia Rodrigo vs. Mariah Carey: A Clash of Icons

Within a discussion thread on a popular online music forum, a member shared their perspective on the resemblance between the two tracks.

They expressed, "Not my first choice for a Mariah Carey cover song, but I'll take it."

Another commenter added, "Copycat olivia strikes again."

A third person commented, "She already put her own spin on a Katy Perry classic with teenage dream so this was the logical next step."

Olivia Rodrigo has faced criticism once again for imitating another singer, marking an alleged recurring pattern of behavior.

Her song "Deja Vu," featured on the successful album Sour, stirred controversy for resembling Taylor Swift's "Cruel Summer."

Following the debut of "Deja Vu," the Disney channel star generously credited Taylor, her songwriter Jack Antonoff, and collaborator St. Vincent for their contributions to the music.

After her second album, Guts, speculations arose that Taylor inspired the lead single, "Vampire."

Olivia Rodrigo Caught in Controversy

Eager to seek guidance, Olivia Rodrigo skillfully evaded addressing the inquiry directly to The Guardian, posing the question, "How do I answer this?"

"I mean, I never want to say who my songs are about. I've never done that before in my career and probably won't. I think it's better to not pigeonhole a song to being about this one thing."

During a recent Instagram update, Olivia also expressed her shock at the assumption that her song lyrics were directed towards Taylor. In a post made in June 2023, she revealed that the song had aided her in navigating a myriad of emotions, including regret, anger, and heartache, without assigning blame to anyone specific.

In addition to stirring excitement among Swifties, the "Driver's License" hitamker faced backlash for reportedly mirroring the sound of Paramore's 2007 hit "Misery Business."

Following some speculation that her single "Good 4 U" resembled a Paramore song, she granted retroactive credits to two singers from the group.
