Fans were shocked when Katy Perry announced that she was leaving American Idol after being a judge for many seasons. Although her decision might come as a surprise to others, Luke Bryan said he saw it coming.

The musician recently spoke with Taste of Country to share his thoughts about the pop star's departure from the show, saying he wasn't shocked by her decision.

"I had heard whispers that she was thinking about it - it wasn't like a huge shock," he said.

The country singer added that Perry might've gotten "caught up in the moment" during her shocking interview with Jimmy Kimmel, so she announced it immediately.

Regardless, Bryan was honored to work with the "California Gurls" hitmaker, and they share a wonderful bond outside of their professional work.

"She and I have developed a great friendship and to work alongside her, I mean, heck, I was there before her daughter was born, and now her daughter is 3 or 4 years old," he added. (via Us Weekly magazine)

Now that the pop star is leaving the show, Bryan assured that he's only a call away to check in and say hello.

Luke Bryan's Future on 'American Idol'

The musician was asked about his future on American Idol, and he didn't give a clear answer about whether he would stay on the show for a long time because they negotiate every season.

He clarified to the outlet that the program is a year-long commitment, not a five-year contract, so when the latter part of the season airs, he and other judges decide whether to return.
