The 2024 Met Gala is less than two weeks away, but host Jennifer Lopez still hasn't decided what she will wear on the big night.
The dancer, singer and actress has had a busy year. She recently wrote, directed, produced and starred in This Is Me... Now: A Love Story, which was released in February. The film is a romantic musical based upon Lopez's album, This Is Me Now... She also featured in a documentary centered on the record, The Greatest Love Story Never Told.
However, her upcoming tour, now rebranded to The Greatest Hits from This is Me...Now, sold far fewer tickets than the "If You Had My Love" singer hoped. She canceled seven of her U.S. shows.
Now, Lopez is set to host the upcoming Met Gala. The Gala's dress code this year is "The Garden of Time." The event will also celebrate the opening of a new exhibit, "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion."
That said, Lopez admitted in a Vogue Instagram post that she is "still deciding" on her outfit as she has "a few different sketches" to pick from. She said that she is a person "who chooses at the last minute."
"I like choices and then I go, 'Okay, this is how I feel today,' and I will try to create some type of amazing look," she divulged. She called the Met Gala "the night for looks." The Gala, which began in 1948, is widely considered the most important fashion event of the year.
She smiled, saying that "You know, Anna [Wintour] calls and asks you to host the Met Gala with her...It's kind of the biggest night in fashion and to raise money for the museum," she explained. The Met Gala Benefit has raised over $223.5 million for the museum's Costume Institute.
She will co-chair the iconic fashion event with Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth and, of course, Anna Wintour. The Vogue editor-in-chief is a trustee of the Metropolitan Museum and has been the de facto face of the annual gala since 1995. The event's honorary chairs are CEO of TikTok, Shou Chew, and Creative Director of LOEWE, Jonathan Anderson. Last year, Dua Lipa, Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel and Roger Federer co-chaired the event.
Lopez excitedly said that it is a "real honor" to co-chair and that it's "a nice thing to be a part of." She has been a long-time attendee of the Met Gala, beginning with her first appearance in 1999. The event didn't have the same strict dress code and was a generally more casual night. Lopez, with then-boyfriend Sean "Diddy" Combs, sported a long pink dress with a matching short pink fur jacket.
Last year, Lopez honored Karl Lagerfeld in a pink and black ensemble designed by Ralph Lauren.
The 2024 Met Gala will take place May 6, the first Monday of the month, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and live streamed by Vogue.
