If you haven't been able to find Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run or Born in The U.S.A. at a record store, you probably haven't been trying hard enough. But some of The Boss's other early records are legitimately hard to find, and if you own them on CD they sound like crap because he was among the first wave of performers to try out the new format circa 1980. His first seven records will all be remastered and rereleased as part of Bruce Springsteen: The Album Collection Vol. 1 1973-1984 (Rolling Stone).
The set will include, for those unfamiliar with the first 11 years of Springsteen's career: Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.; The Wild, The Innocent & the E Street Shuffle; Born to Run, Darkness on The Edge of Town, The River, Nebraska (not with the E Street Band, of course) and Born in The U.S.A.
U.S.A. and Darkness on The Edge of Town have gotten remastered previously but the rest have remained in their original condition up to this point.
Each album will come in a recreated version of its original packaging, wrapped up with a 60-page book featuring photos and reviews from that span of Springsteen's career.
No word on whether you'll be able to buy the albums one-by-one, you know, in case you hate Nebraska or something (what, are you crazy?). The set will be available as both CD and vinyl and preorders are already being taken. Again, no word on whether this will be a limited edition run or not.
