Divorce rumors have been swirling around Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert for months now, and finally the news has been confirmed. Today (July 20), the two country superstars announced that they will be moving forward with separate lives.

TMZ broke the news that Shelton had filed for divorce from Lambert "a while ago." A judge was expected to finalize the divorce today in filings in their home state of Oklahoma.

"This is not the future we envisioned and it is with heavy heart that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real family, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter," the former couple said in a statement.

As TMZ reports, the divorce has been a long time coming for Shelton and Lambert, who had been married for four years. Lambert has slowly been moving her farm animals from the couple's shared estate in Oklahoma to her home in Nashville. The couple will be splitting their assets as such. The divorce is unlikely to see a flurry of angry battles over property and money because they had a prenuptial agreement. The couple has no children together.

Shelton and Lambert began dating in 2006 after dueting on the single "You're the Reason God Made Oklahoma," and years after sharing music writing credits and popping up on each other's albums, the couple got engaged in May 2010. They married one year later on May 14, 2011.
