The Godfather and Scarface are two of the more popular films that portray notorious drug lords. Now, thanks to Norwegian filmmaker Eva Sørhaug, the story of a notorious female drug lord, Griselda Blanco, will be told with Catherine Zeta-Jones starring as the violent queen pin.

The Source reported that the upcoming biopic, which will begin filming in 2016, is destined to become an instant classic. Blanco was one of the more notable drug lords in the '80s, and is reminiscent of the female version of the Godfather. The film, appropriately titled, The Godmother, will tell the life story of the Colombian woman who "rose to the highest ranks of the cartel" in a male dominated criminal organization.

According to the site, "From the 1970's to the early 1980's the Medellín Cartel, fathered by the notorious "King of Cocaine" Pablo Escobar, was estimated to have supplied between 84 to 90 percent of cocaine in the United States, and 80 percent in the entire world." The film will focus on her rise to the top in the organization, which ultimately lead to her being on the run from authorities and members of her own organization.

Zeta-Jones has previous experience acting in films portraying drug related activity. The Gold Globe winner played a "ruthless wife of a drug lord in 2000's Traffic," according to Deadline. The film explored the illegal drug trade between several cartel members and the individuals who were affected by the business. Zeta-Jones played Helena, described by Fandango as the oblivious wife, who ultimately attempted to take control of the drug business upon her husband's demise.

The 2000 film brought in $207.5 million in box office sales.
