Stacey Dash recently came under fire for controversial comments about eliminating the BET Awards and Black History Month. Following immediate online backlash, Dash has decided to clarify her previous statements.

During an appearance on FOX & Friends earlier this month, Dash shared her opinion that niche networks like BET and award ceremonies such as the NAACP Images Awards promote a segregated mindset. The Clueless actress had similar sentiments towards Black History Month.

More recently, she further explained her comments on her blog, saying that celebrating black history should not be limited to just one month.

“I’m not saying we as black people deserve LESS respect. I’m saying we deserve MORE,” Dash wrote on her blog. “Black History should be a part of social studies and history curriculum EVERYDAY OF EVERY MONTH OF EVERY YEAR.”

She continued, writing, “Black history IS American history. We are not a category or a special interest group. We are Americans. Our accomplishments cannot be limited to 28 days. Do not listen to liberals who try to limit you, to put you into a box, to tell you that you MUST believe one way or another, that you cannot think for yourselves, and that the government can ‘give’ you a ‘special month.'”

Initially, Dash supported her stance, noting that there isn’t a white history month.

Dash’s statements sent the Internet, particularly Black Twitter, into an uproar and even prompted a response from BET. The network shared a link to a gallery on its site titled "Every Time Stacey Dash Proved She Was Clueless."

“She thinks there needs to be a white history month too, since, you know, our ancestors apparently fought for nothing," BET wrote in regard to her comments. "Clueless indeed."
