The DownBeat Critics Poll is the quintessential list for jazz heavyweights and serious contenders in the music world. This year, Jane Ira Bloom won soprano saxophonist of the year (and #8 jazz album of the year).

The 62nd Annual Awards are a centerpiece and have ranked some of the greatest performers in electric bass, violin, organ, flute, baritone sax and so on.

A Classicalite favorite, Vijay Iyer, took the cake for Best Pianist, Stanley Clark on Electric Bass, Bill Frisell for Guitar, Nicole Mitchell on Flute and, well, you can make your way to the page and find out the rest of the winners for 2014.

If you aren't familiar, the mission of DownBeat is to bring to the frontlines some of the graetest in jazz, briding the generational gap and keeping with the roads "paved with jazz."
