Nick Jonas opened up about being a father for the first time to his 5-month-old daughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas with wife Priyanka Chopra.

The 29-year-old musician revealed that the recent school shooting in Uvalde, Texas in which 19 students were slain has altered his outlook on parenting. As with all the parents, even those abroad, the shooting was tragic and no one would want to see their innocent children growing up in such a world and experiencing anything remotely the same.

In an interview released on Sunday, May 29 by E! News, he stated that the shooting made him have a deeper sense of what it means to be a father, or a parent.

"The weight of everything is much more intense," he said to E! News in an interview published Sunday, May 29. "I think it's now about trying to be as present as possible and as thoughtful as you can be for your family, but also for other people's journeys," the Jonas Brother shared. "As a father, as an uncle, I can't not think about the kids and all the lives that were lost... I'm hoping for change to happen and we'll see the end of this," Nick added.

Nick and Priyanka hid their surrogate pregnancy until they made a joint parental announcement.

We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate," they wrote on January 21. "We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much," the also said.

However, after being prematurely born, Malti stayed in the NICU of the hospital. Before Mother's Day, they were finally able to bring her home after she had remained there for 100 days to undergo therapy. It certainly made Priyanka view the day very differently from all the past Mother's days.

On this Mother's Day we can't help but reflect on these last few months and the rollercoaster we've been on, which we now know, so many people have also experienced. After 100 plus days in the NICU, our little girl is finally home," Priyanka said. It was also on this post the the actress shared the first photo of their little girl.

In the said sweet photo, she can be seen snuggling her newborn close, but chose to cover her face for the camera.

Reflecting on the emotional experience, she stated that everyone's journey as a family is going to be different but there's no denying that after they went through what they did to get their baby reach that point, "it becomes abundantly evident in retrospect how precious and exquisite every moment is."

Nick and Priyanka's first kid is Malti. The couple wed on December 1, 2018 in a grand ceremony in Jodhpur, India, after dating for only a few months.
