More details about the upcoming 2022 American Music Awards have been unpacked, including the highly-awaited nominees and the voting procedures!

Bad Bunny ultimately leads the pack of nominees with an outstanding eight nominations, including the coveted artist of the year.

Voting options have officially been open since the American Music Awards have always been a fan-voted awards show.

2022 American Music Awards Nominees

Leading the bill with eight nominations is Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny. With his record-setting album, "Un Verano Sin Ti," the Latino rapper is pressed to win a mountain of awards in the coming show. He has been nominated for Artist of the Year, Best Touring Artist, Favorite Male Artist, and Favorite Male Latin Artist. His recent album received nods for Favorite Pop Album and Favorite Latin Album. Lastly, his collaboration with Chencho Corleone, "Me Porto Bonito," was nominated for Favorite Music Video and Favorite Latin Song.

If Bad Bunny managed to do a clean sweep, he would tie with Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston for most AMAs took home in a year.

Trailing behind him are Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Drake, who all have six nominations each. All three of them are nominated for Artist of the Year and Male & Female Pop Artist.

Beyonce's "Renaissance" and Taylor Swift's "Red (Taylor's Version)" are going head to head for Favorite Pop Album.

Meanwhile, the American Music Awards recognizes first-time nominees this year too. BLACKPINK, TWICE, TXT, and Seventeen were the only four Korean acts first nominated on the show. Steve Lacy, Jack Harlow, Anitta, Tems, Dove Cameron, GAYLE, and Swedish House Mafia were all vying for a win.

Elton John became the longest-recognized artist in the show's history, stemming from the AMA's inaugural ceremony in 1974.

The AMAs also made some important decisions this year after they reinstated six old categories again. These include Favorite Afrobeats Artist, Favorite Rock Song & Album, Favorite Soundtrack, and Favorite K-Pop Artist. (via Billboard)

Soundtrack and Touring awards were revived again after they were previously dropped by the show because of the decline in concerts and cinema during the pandemic.
