Maneskin members spoke up about their MTV Video Music Awards experience and shared their thoughts about the censorship that happened.

Italian band, Maneskin, officially entered the MTV VMAs earlier this year after becoming an international hit music group. However, they sparked buzz when the awards ceremony censored their performance because of frontman Damiano David or bassist Victoria De Angelis.

Months after the incident, Maneskin members addressed the issue in an interview with NME, talking about whether David's outfit was truly a problem, or if De Angelis' wardrobe malfunction caused it.

For what it's worth, Prince wore a similar wardrobe when he performed at an awards show in the 1990s.

"It shows that there are still many, many prejudices towards rock bands and towards women. There is a lot to work on and we try to do our part," David said, as quoted by Loudwire.

Meanwhile, De Angelis expressed that she feels sad about it. Still, she said it is good that the public talked about the incident and thought about it.

She went on to call the censorship something stupid since it was a sign that there should be control over what people want to do with their bodies.

What Happened at the MTV Video Music Awards?

In August, Maneskin debuted at the MTV VMAs, but its fans were left annoyed and disappointed as they showed mostly aerial footage instead of close-up shots.

MTV VMAs initially showed the band members in the first 40 seconds of their "Supermodel" performance. But the video changed after De Angelis' black top fell off her shoulder and exposed her breast.

She was wearing silver nipple tape, but the whole performance was censored afterward. fans condemned the ceremony over the censorship and called it out of being unfair.

Although the issue became buzz-worthy, it was not the first time Maneskin made a headline.

After the band won Eurovision last year, they faced criticism after a video of them drinking went viral. They also accused David of snorting cocaine when he bent his head in the video.

The European Broadcasting Union immediately clarified that no drug use happened in the Green Room.

"We consider the matter closed. We are alarmed that inaccurate speculation leading to fake news has overshadowed the spirit and the outcome of the event and unfairly affected the band. We wish to congratulate Måneskin once again and wish them huge success," the EBU said.
