Paramore released "The News," their second single from their upcoming album "This Is Why," and it explores the alarming but distorted reality of the 24/7 news cycle, and the accompanying music video might just be equally terrifying.

"The News" comes months after the release of "This Is Why" the lead single and title track for Paramore's sixth studio album.

The rock band decided to take their new single to the next level by having an accompanying music video lined with metaphors with a general horror-themed concept.

"'The News' is one of those songs that came together pretty quickly and felt exciting from the start," said lead singer Hayley Williams in a statement.

"It feels like a happy medium between classic Paramore angst and bringing in some influences we've always had but never exploited."

Sure enough "The News" flows along with Paramore's usual genre but has an entirely different yet refreshing take on it.

"Lyrically, it probably explains itself. The 24-hr news cycle is just impossible to comprehend. And I feel a pang of guilt when I unplug to protect my headspace," the statement continued.

Sure enough, the song's lyrics follow the distorted reality of the media and the news constantly being reported.

Inspiration

In an interview with Apple Music 1 Show host Zane Lowe, Williams revealed that the song explores political themes, as it has been inspired by several devastatingly bad news.

"It started with just the pandemic," she began. "There was George Floyd, there were all these uprisings, there were marches and protests that we went to. There was a bombing by a conspiracy theorist on Christmas Day in Nashville."

"It's like we're experiencing it from whatever vantage point we're at, and there's something to say about it.

"And I'm hoping, I'm praying and hoping that the perspective and the lyrics that we're presenting is personal enough and as much with respect to everyone's specific or potential vantage point that maybe other people can relate to it in some way that we haven't even intended."

According to Rolling Stone, "The News" music video was directed by Mike Kluge and Matthew DeLisi.

As of this writing, the music video has garnered over 397,000 videos with 68,000 likes. Watch the music video here.
