Jennifer Lopez pays tribute to Selena Quintanilla 25 years after portraying her in a movie and making her a household figure.

On Monday, the 53-year-old celebrity, who recently discussed her difficult background, was spotted wearing a Selena T-shirt while shopping with her family at Cost Plus World Market.

Her Selena shirt was a faux-vintage black garment-dyed design that portrayed the Tejano music icon singing into a microphone.

She paired the graphic T-shirt with flowered pants and dark grey suede ankle boots. Jennifer glistened in gold as she wore enormous hoop earrings, a chain bracelet, rings, aviator sunglasses, and a suede luxury bag with gold clasp.

Emme, Jennifer's 14-year-old daughter, accompanied her on the excursion to the speciality retailer.

J. Lo's sister Lynda Lopez and her 14-year-old daughter Lucie also joined them.

Jennifer had a little filmography when she was hired as the legendary Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla in the 1997 biopic.

Selena Quintanilla was one of the most recognized Mexican singers of the 20th century, labeled the Queen of Tejano Music, a form of music that combines Mexican and American influences that she popularized.

In March 1995, the singer was murdered by Yolanda Saldivar, the manager of her fan club and boutiques, who was discovered to have embezzled money from her. The singer was on the edge of global recognition, having become the first Tejano artist to win a Grammy in 1994.

In March, J-Lo posted snippets from the film and interviews in which she discussed how the part launched her legendary career on Instagram.

She said they are are commemorating SELENA's 25th anniversary! Today, "we remember and celebrate Selena's heritage and music". She added that the film is very significant to her. Selena and her family are extremely important to her, and she feels so fortunate to have been cast as Selena. She added that it's an honor she won't ever forget.

Meanwhile, a Selena Quintanilla dress is on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. Entertainment Nation/Nación del Espectáculo, a new exhibition at the museum that opened on December 9, 2022, features the late singer's black leather jacket and satin bustier from the 1994 Tejano Music Awards in San Antonio, Texas.

A tweet from the museum states that they are very excited to welcome "you to our newest exhibition". The exhibition "will offer a strong, ever-changing mix of objects and interactive experiences drawn from our collection."

The dress, which was donated by the Quintanilla family, is identical to the one worn by the statue of Selena in Corpus Christi, Texas.
