John Mellencamp dropped a powerful preview of one of his songs in his upcoming album, "Orpheus Descending."

After the release of his 2022 EP, "Strictly a One-Eyed Jack," Mellencamp is gearing up to release his 25th album. The upcoming LP includes the singer's three collaborations with Bruce Springsteen.

The 11-track album has the opener, "Hey God," which recently delivered a powerful message to the listeners.

John Mellencamp Sings About Gun Violence in New Song

Mellencamp's official YouTube channel dropped the official lyric video of the first song in his "Orpheus Descending Album."

The track, "Hey God," features the singer as he asks for escape from the widespread gun violence in the US and across the world.

In the preview, Mellencamp sings: "Weapons and guns, are they really my rights? / Laws written a long time ago / No one could imagine the sight of so many dead on the floor/Hey, God, if you're still there, would you please come down? We can't take it anymore."

Mellencamp joined the musicians who already spoke out against gun violence following the series of horrifying shooting tragedies. They also began advocating for gun control reform to prevent more incidents from occurring.

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's Neil Young previously released a music video for a live performance of "Ohio" which included a spoken intro following the Kent State tragedy. His bandmates have also been supporting gun reform.

Even Pearl Jam opened up about gun violence in its 1993 song, "Glorified G." In the track, Eddie Vedder sang the lyrics which turned out to be inspired by the band's former drummer, Dave Abbruzzese. He was a proud gun owner who was fired from Pearl Jam.
