After dubbing the guilty verdict on his trial a "miscarriage of justice" and attempting to get a new trial, rapper Tory Lanez has been denied a new one and will move forward for his sentencing hearing.

The new trial has been denied despite pleading to the judge to "not ruin" his career by granting him a new one. Because of this, Lanez, formally known as Daystar Peterson, might be facing 22 years in prison, and deportation.

Tory Lanez New Trial Denied

According to Billboard, Tory Lanez request for a new trial has been denied. This was after his very pitiful plea to the judge about his career.

"Please don't ruin my life. I could be your son. I could be your brother," he asked the judge, as reported via HipHopDX.

Initially, Lanez's new counsel, composed of Jose Baez and Matthew Barhoma, was pushing for two arguments - the missing DNA test and ineffective counsel.

Missing DNA Test

Peterson revealed that Baez hired one of the "best DNA experts" in the country to carefully analyze the same DNA test for the court. They found out that his DNA was 100% excluded and eliminated from the gun. However, the DNA test during the trial came back inconclusive.

Judge David Herriford countered and asked why no one objected to the DNA during the trial, but Barhoma noted that Lanez's previous counsel was in the process of hiring her own DNA expert whose results turned out to be false. Meanwhile, an expert wasn't hired until after eight months and was "not adequately prepared."

Ineffective Counsel

Initially, Peterson's lawyer was Shawn Holley. However, she had to step aside due to scheduling conflicts, which put George Mgdesyan on the spot, with little time to prepare.

After the trial had concluded, he recruited Baez and Barhoma in an attempt to reverse the verdict.

During the May 9 hearing for a new trial, Baez said that Mgdesyan provided "ineffective counsel" to Peterson. However, Herriford repeatedly noted that Baez could not use such an argument because he did not make the argument in his motion for a new trial, so he could not put forward the said argument later.

Tory Lanez Sentencing

With the denied trial, Lanez is now heading to a sentencing trial whose date has not yet been revealed to the public.

Initially, he could face 22 years in prison and deportation. It is expected that within the next month, the sentencing hearing could be set but Peterson could still appeal for reversal, putting forth ineffective counsel as its main argument.

In late 2020, female rapper, Megan Thee Stallion shared on Instagram that she was shot on the foot on July 2020, and identified Tory Lanez as the shooter.
