Newsted's upcoming show will determine the band's future, Jason Newsted said.

Newsted will finally perform together again on May 20 at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with Jason as the vocalist and bassist, Jesus Mendez Jr. as the drummer, and Jessie Farnsworth as the guitarist.

It will welcome Humberto Perez as its new guitarist.

Newsted's Future To Be Determined by Florida Concert

In a new interview with Dead Delray, the former Metallica bassist spoke about how Newsted's Fort Lauderdale performance would determine whether the reactivation of the band would be a one-off or the beginning of a new chapter.

Jason said they would soon know whether Newsted would be like Metallica in 2011 when he was tapped to play with his former band for its 30th-anniversary shows.

"This we will find out on May 20th, if they bring me back. If they bring me back, then they do, and if they don't, they don't, and here I am and I'm still happy," he said. "It's gonna be a crazy f**king show. We've been working hard on the songs, and I'm ready to give it."

As for the reason why he brought back Newsted, Jason explained that his decision was the fruit of his selfishness to prove to himself that he could do it. In order to make the attempt, he reportedly created new songs which could present proudly to the public.

With that, he put the ability to decide on Newsted's future to the people who would watch its show at the Revolution Live.

Newsted's comeback came nearly a decade after the band canceled its supposed last appearance at the Soundwave Festival. The band said at that time that "private and personal circumstances" led the members to come up with the decision.

Jason Newsted Experience Financial Difficulties?

Before the announcement of Newsted's return, Staind guitarist Mike Mushok said in a 2019 interview with "The Jasta Show" that Jason pulled the plug due to financial reasons. The musician was part of the band in March 2013.

According to Mushok, Newsted's European tour cost Jason a bunch. Despite the issues with financial viability, he applauded his former bandmate's hard work just to create music for fans through the band.
