In recent years, the musician was able to be vulnerable and opened up about his family members, especially his mother, Gloria Carter, who recently got married to her partner, Roxanne Wilshire.

The couple tied the knot in New York City and the ceremony was star-studded as it featured some of the biggest celebrities in the industry like Beyoncé herself, Blue Ivy Carter, Kelly Rowland, and many more.

Jay-Z's Dad Was Absent Most of His Life

According to People Magazine, Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Corey Carter, was born on December 4. 1969. His parents were Gloria Carter and Adnis "AJ" Reeves.

Growing up, the rapper was mostly estranged from his father as he was not present throughout his life. The musician opened up about his feelings as he felt some kind of resentment against him as he abandoned his family when the musician was 11 years old.

In a previous interview, Gloria Carter revealed the reason why Reeves left his family, saying his brother was stabbed in the chest and he wanted to seek revenge to the point that he became a "bitter, evil, different guy."

The father and son were able to reunite months before Jay-Z's dad died from liver failure in 2003.

Jay-Z Became Emotional When Gloria Carter Came Out to Him

In an interview with David Letterman on the Netflix show "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction," the musician opened up about the time when his mom came out to him as a lesbian.

He told the host that he couldn't imagine his Gloria Carter living as "someone else and you think you're protecting your kids."

The musician then revealed that he "cried" at the time when his mom came out because he was so happy for her that she was "free."

Carter recently got married to her partner, Roxanne Wiltshire.

According to Sportskeeda, Roxanne Wiltshire is a philathropist. She is also the co-founder and president of the Wiltshire Foundation.

It appears that the now-married couple was meant for each other as Gloria Carter also does the same thing with her charitable organization that she established with Jay-Z.

Born in Port of Spain in Trinidad, Wiltshire also has kids on her own as she lives with her two daughters in New Jersey and would visit Carter in her apartment in Manhattan, New York City before they got married.
