Kelly Clarkson's most recent record, "Chemistry," is perhaps her most emotional album to date. This is because of how heavy the emotions and the lyrics were, which pertained largely to her relationship with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.

As she gracefully threaded through the bitter divorce proceedings and the impact of the separation on her children, Clarkson was open about her emotions and process when she created the album.

Kelly Clarkson Didn't Want 'Chemistry' To Be A Divorce Album?

Speaking to the TODAY Show, Kelly Clarkson admitted that the album was written from a "super personal" place.

"It's a hard record. It was hard to make, but it's also not just [about] the bad of a relationship. ... I didn't want it to be a divorce album; I wanted it to be a relationship album," she admitted.

Indeed, the album wasn't all about disappointment, despise, or anger. She mentioned that the album also contained songs that spoke of the "good parts" of her relationship with Brandon Blackstock.

"It wasn't all bad, so I wanted to celebrate that as a whole. For the most part, it's sad. But that's how I work through what's going on with me: through writing," she explained.

Blackstock and Clarkson filed for divorce in 2021. It was marred with controversy, including property arguments, alimony disagreements, and even a custody battle on their two children, River and Remington.

Clarkson released "Chemistry (Deluxe Edition)."

Kelly Clarkson Suffered During And After The Divorce

Speaking to Apple Music's Zane Lowe earlier this year, Clarkson spoke candidly about the divorce, where she recalled crying, to the point, that she was unable to speak.

"There were just a lot of now unhealthy habits you recognize or habits that you recognize that you didn't see before. Hindsight is a lot easier," she revealed, before adding that she did everything to "make it work."

"I think when you finally go, 'I can't fix this. I can't,' there's no amount of hope that will, or trying or whatever. It actually is freeing. It's incredibly sad. It's a dark place, and fetal position on the floor crying. There's so much loss with that and I'd never experienced grief like that, but I also think it's very freeing," she went on to say.

After the divorce, she also received questions from her children about their separation and divorce, which she bravely answered with all honesty. (via People Magazine)
