Terry Kirkman, popularly known for being one of the co-founders of the famed band the Association, has died at the age of 83; what was his cause of death?

The group took to their official social media accounts to confirm the tragic news with their followers by sharing an old photo of the singer.

In the caption, they wrote, "We're saddened to report that Terry Kirkman passed away last night, RIP Terry. He will live on in our hearts and in the music he so brilliantly wrote."

The family also spoke with The Los Angeles Times to confirm that the songwriter died at his home in Montclair, California, due to congestive heart failure after battling a long illness.

According to Billboard, the musician was born in the small town of Salina, Kansas. He and his good friend, Jules Alexander, moved to Los Angeles, California, where they ventured out into the world of music.

When he first arrived in the state, he initially played with Frank Zappa before they later formed the group called Mothers of Invention.

Later on, the Association was formed in 1964. They went on to have some of the biggest hits of their careers such as "Everything That Touches You," "Along Comes Mary," "Never My Love," and many more.

The group was known for their unique take on music as they blend smooth harmonies with their own style and twist.

One of their biggest accomplishments was being an opener for the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, an event which was considered to be the first commercial American rock festival.

Aside from the Association, the festival also featured some of the biggest musical acts like Jimi Hendrix and the Who, Janis Joplin, and many more.

Throughout his time with the Association, Kirkman was able to write some major hits such as "Six Man Band," "Cherish," "Everything That Touches You," and more.

Aside from his vocals, he also contributed using instruments such as percussion, brass, wind, and more.

The singer departed his band in 1972 after spending years and releasing countless albums with them. He returned seven years later, but they ultimately split in 1984 after getting tired of non-stop touring.

Even though the band was not able to last or release any new material for decades, they still left a lasting mark to their audiences as they were nominated for over six Grammy Awards throughout their careers as well as a Golden Globe nominaton.
