The director of the 2002 dramedy "Crossroads" talked about a potential sequel and eventual streaming availability in a new interview as the Britney Spears-starring film prepares to revisit theaters this week to coincide with the publication of her autobiography "The Woman in Me."

Spears discusses her time on Crossroads in-depth in her book, claiming that she didn't enjoy "method acting" for the movie. ""I hope I never get close to that occupational hazard again. Living that way, being half yourself and half a fictional character, is messed up," she expounded.

Regarding her lone and exclusive leading position," Spears remarked.

"After a while, you don't know what's genuine anymore," she added.

Despite that, Spears was the one who proposed that Crossroads, be rereleased along with her memoir even though it wasn't on any streaming services at the time.

"Sony called me because Britney called and got it picked up again because she wanted it to help launch her book," the director Tamra Davis stated in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.

"Brittney just needs to call and it's available!"

Davis expected a stream of the film soon after its brief theatrical showing this week.

"I think that's what they're going to work on now, is getting a streaming deal. I'm sure we will. They're dealing with offers now," Davis said. "I had just seen it - I forget how many years ago - at a London film festival, and it was insane. The theater was crowded. People were singing along and I was like, this film is really important [and] should be available," Davis explained.

Shonda Rhimes, who wrote "Crossroads" before her huge "Grey's Anatomy" fame, is currently working on other Shondaland projects, but Davis acknowledges that Rhimes had "an idea" for a potential sequel and that Spears' team is at least aware of the discussion.

Its producer, Van Toffler, who I'm presently working with, has [discussed it]. Davis stated, "I believe he has discussed it with Britney's management. "Britney, I don't think she wants to act that much, but I know Ann talked to Shonda about something, and Shonda had an idea, so who knows if that will come to fruition," I said. But if it does, let's hope Shonda is involved because she is simply so intelligent.

Her wonderful voice and her grasp of female characters were both evident in her debut feature film.

Fans of Britney Spears will get the chance to watch "Crossroads" on the big screen on October 23 and 25 at one of the approximately 900 cinemas screening the movie nationally, despite the movie receiving negative reviews upon its premiere. The Woman in Me, which is full of shocking disclosures, will be released on October 24 between the screenings.
