After the arrival of the memoir, "The Woman in Me," Britney Spears has begun to create music again.

Taking to Instagram over the weekend, the singer shared a snap from her 2001 hit "Overprotected" with an exciting caption.

She wrote: "I wrote a new song!!!"

Britney provided some clues about the title of her upcoming song. She indicated it was called "Hate You to Like Me" and further explained that she held no grudges against anyone - this was simply an example of being egotistical.

When the title of the new single was revealed, some fans wondered whether it was a shade towards Selena Gomez. After all, the song title echoed Selena's hit breakup anthem, "Lose You to Love Me."

Netizens noticed that the singer took the opportunity to throw shade at Selena Gomez, per Page Six.

"Britney Spears can't enjoy her memoir and all the praise she's getting... she just had to find a way to insult Selena somehow."

This follows an accusation in October 2020 that Britney had taken issue with Selena's 2016 speech, where she requested that young girls not post pictures of their bodies on Instagram.

At that time, the "Toxic" singer expressed her opinion, seemingly about the "Wizards of Waverly Place" singer's 2020 music video with Blackpink.

She wrote: "They say 'This is NOT something I would do,' but these women are getting four million dollar budgets allocated for videos about licking and sucking on homemade ice cream !!!!"

Britney went on to add, "So the next time I see someone with a big budget video sucking on lollipops yet giving righteous speeches shaming other women for exposing their bodies, I would like to tell those people don't be a hypocrite as you suck on your lollipop having HUGE budget dreams."

But Britney Spears later clarified that her message had nothing to do with anyone.

Despite the rumors of conflict between the "Baby One More Time" singer and Selena - who attended Britney's wedding in 2022 - others don't believe their song titles are related.

"Just because Britney Spears posted lyrics [sic] kinda mimicking Selena Gomez's song does not mean it a shade for her," one fan said.

"A Thursday wedding ... doesn't that usually indicate that the bride and groom are trying to get a discount?" the host joked. "I wouldn't know," Selena answered.
